literally another aussie in london

Bagging London, Australia and Myself

warm beer

It took me a month to have my first warm beer in England.

Well my first proper warm beer from a pub, not an unintentional warm beer in a tent in Wales.

But now it has happened.

The beer was discovery bitter.

And was forced on me by a rabid Englishman.

He was probably being anti French, as I was drinking Kronenburg at the time.

Usually I don’t like bitters, i like lagers, and over here they are kept cool.

But this wasn’t a bad taste.

Not like Melbourne bitter, or Victorian bitter, which are both horse piss.

I think I will stick to my lagers, but I am not anti warm beers.

And at least I didn’t dry reach.

The great fosters scam

I was surprised to arrive at the Oval to be greeted by two beers, one fosters lager, and the other starts with M or something.

I knew Fosters Lager was big overseas, I once ignored it at Universal studios, but I really didn’t think I would be seeing it at the neighbour to the home of cricket.

So I had one, and it sprung to mind that it may be the first fosters I have had in years.

Because in Australia we don’t sell that brand of horse piss.

It is a beer made for international consumption.

I can’t remember the last bar I went into that had it on tap.

Occasionally in back packers they have it in stubbies, but other than drunken Irish kids, I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone drink it.

Obviously I have sampled a few other Fosters beers over the journey.

At one stage I played for a cricket club where every player seemed to love Crown Lager, Fosters boutique beer.

But in general it is entirely possible to ignore Fosters Lager your whole life in Austraila.

In England, not so much.

I have always regarded the lack of Fosters lager in Australia as some kind of giant aussie piss take.

And having drank it the last few days at the cricket, I think I was right.
