Bagging London, Australia and Myself

Sri Lankan album covers

While in Sri Lanka I took a few more than 8000 photos.

And this is because I was trying to take one that could end up on the cover of another artist’s, perhaps an alt-country band, album.

Here are my efforts.

Is your album a retro 1950s style throwback?

Are you a moody coffee drinking song writer?

Are you singing about the end of the world?

Singing about love loves in a blues style?

Proving to the cynics that there is beautiful aspects of commercialism?

Is your band called geti?

Do you like fire and Elephants in the dark?

Want to show you are in a fancy hotel?

Hopefully there is something in their for a young artist looking for an album cover.

If not, I may start a band called geti.

Sri Lanka – the people

People always say how nice the people of Sri Lanka are.

Bullshit.

I found each and every one of them a complete asshole.

No, that is a lie.

I liked them.

They’re super.

People from hot places that aren’t over crowded are often the best, as they are so relaxed.

Sure they don’t always turn up when you need them, or give you all the info that you need, but it all works out.

So here are my favourite picks of the people of Sri Lanka.

This is some special riding.

My dad waved at these people, the dad looked suspicious, the little girl was confused, and the last girl got ready for her close up.

Look at how stylish this Monk was.  Dude is enlightened, and he knows it.

This is the best face I have ever seen.  I hope he knows it.

My uncle and his Sri Lankan doppelganger.

I love how this guy seems to be auditioning to model in a jean’s ad.

She was being given a speeding fine.

Now I get the sarong.

But of all the people in Sri Lanka we spent time with, none were as cool as Tissa.  He was our driver, and a top bloke. Bonza, even.  So here is my favourite picture of him.  The backstory of this photo was that we got him a ticket to the Sri Lanka Vs India match, it was the first cricket game he had ever been too.  I took this photo as he was telling us about it.

There are obviously heaps more, but you can see them on flickr if you feel the need.

Now he thinks he is a photographer…

I’ve now put up pretty much every photo I have ever taken that I don’t hate on Flickr.

To make it easy for people I’ve put them into sets.

The travel one includes my last few trips and have dog shit, graffiti, doorways, funny words and trains.

The Whisky Hill one is a few stills I took of my post-apocalyptic school film that never quite existed.

The Edgewater was a set of photos I took of a housing development near where I lived in Melbourne.

Or you could just go through them all if your life allows such nonsense.

If I don’t get another album cover out of this post I will be mega pissed off.

Literally in Belgium

So after my long all night bus ride I spent a few days relaxing in Brussels.

Brussels came across as a less french and more clean version of Paris. I am not sure if that is a compliment.

I can’t remember too much about it, as I was bus lagged.

The highlight for me was the comic strip musuem.  Those wacky Belgians like their comic strips/books and cartoons.

I did meet a smurf, which was a highlight.

While there I found out my wife is a big fan of Moomin, which I’d never heard of before.  And I bought my first ever comic book, which was shit.  I thought it was going to be this cool sci fi shit, and it was just shit.  No wonder I usually wait for comic books to be filtered through hollywood before I get involved.

One thing I enjoyed was meeting up with one of my wife’s friends and getting involved in a proper Flemish vs French battle. This woman, nice as she was in every way, couldn’t go 3 sentences without bagging the French, and being that we were in Brussells, she had plenty of French shit to have a go at.

It was wonderful, it was like our own mini civil war, while we had Belgian waffles.  Anytime our waiter didn’t come over it was because he was French, and not because he was just so clearly a wanker no matter what nationality he was.

It made the waffles so much sweeter. Which caused a problem later in the day when I had a sugar crash.

While we were in belgium we also had to pick up our Eurostar tickets.  My wife was at one counter, I was at another, and just when I was to go up to the counter, she called me to hers, which we then found out was of no use to us at all.  So I missed my spot at the other counter, but I had given my deli number to another British couple who used it.  So when we came back they told us that for picking up tickets we didn’t have to wait for more than 2 minutes, which proved true.

Through one act of kindness from me, I’d saved myself 2 extra hours.  Although I won’t make it a habit.

In the two hours before I got bored and started taking pictures like this.

And this.

One of the cool things in Brussels was that they chucked their comic strip art straight up on the wall.

It makes a difference from the graffiti, which they had too, although not that much of. Not that I remember seeing one teenager the whole time I was there. They must hide them.

On one afternoon we had a bit of walk around Brussels, which seems to have no people after business hours.  I like a city you can walk around like it is in the middle of some apocalypse.

There was, as always, great words to take photos of.

That was Brussels, mostly.

I really don’t remember much of my time there, but Brussels was definitely cooler than being on a bus.

Nice place, but I don’t need to go back.

Anyone taking bets on one of these photos making the cover of an album?

Noodels, anyone?

Would you eat there?

It talks some balls to keep this sort of a sign up.

But the real genius is the correct spelling on the signs below.

Just so you know they weren’t trying to be wacky with the spelling.

Family Job?

An apology by the way of a photo

It’s true I haven’t been around much recently.

Sorry.

I do have alot to write about, when I get the chance.

Recently I invented a drink, Sodka, which is Solo and Vodka, but I did not name it, a very clever guide did.

I have also been helping the homeless.

Have been shopping.

Discovered the beauty that is Brixton.

Here is a sneak peak of Brixton.
